My monoprint, Urban Salvage, is on exhibit at the Cotuit Center for the Arts on Cape Cod as part of the exhibition, Marking Time, Boston Printmakers 70th anniversary show. Since they hung it next to the bar (and by the hallway that leads to the restrooms) everyone is sure to get a good look at it!
Here’s a link to all the works in the exhibit which runs through September 16th.
Spent a terrific week in July at Meca’s Stephen Pace House residency in Stonington with my critique group. We meet monthly to look at and talk about each other’s work. This year we decided to apply for the residency… the big challenge – finding a week in the summer where we were all available! But we mostly pulled it off, with 7 of the 8 of us attending.
I was only about 4 hours off the plane from Iceland when the Meca Collect art sale opened up for preview night. The new president of Meca, Laura Freid, was introduced and spoke to the packed house. Many thanks were given to Stu Kestenbaum for his excellent job filling in as interim president this past year. I am thrilled that all 3 of my pieces in the sale sold…2 to local collectors and one has gone all the way out to Southern California!
5 members of Peregrine Press had the opportunity to travel to Iceland in late June. Our host was Sola Halldorsdottir who we had met the previous summer at a master printmaking class at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ireland. Joined by Mary Patterson from Ireland (who had also been with us at Ballinglen) and 2 of Sola’s friends from Iceland, Hronn and Kristen, we had an amazing 10 days art making and sightseeing. Our teacher Elva Hreiðarsdóttir worked with us at the Hvitahus residency house (which she owns and runs) on the Snaefellsness peninsula, about 3 hours from Reykjavik and then again back in Reykjavik at the Icelandic Printmaking Association. An amazing experience all around!
In early June, Jenny Scheu and I drove up to Deer Isle to hang the Peregrine Press 25th anniversary exhibit, “Art of the Hand-Pulled Print” at the Haystack School’s Community Center Gallery. Once a tall enough ladder had been found our collaborative collaged bird kite flew over the exhibition for the rest of the month. Thank you Haystack!
A group of us from Peregrine Press had a great time participating in this steamroller print project in May, organized by the folks at Running with Scissors artist studio building. Here we are inking up our 4’x8′ block and printing it on muslin. Many other print shops joined in, Pickwick Press, Wolfe Editions, Meca, UMaine, Circling the Square….it was a party!
